Birds in Spring in the Park

Our wildlife expert Steve reports that Blackcaps have returned to the park. There was a male singing in the Community Garden, and another singing by the Victorian Path. They successfully bred here last year.
A Song Thrush was nest building in the brambles above the 5th Scout Hut. This is a red-listed species, and so it’s great to have them breeding in the park.
A male Nuthatch was singing lustily in Beechwood.
Keep an ear open for Chiffchaffs. They should be returning soon and are one of the easiest species to recognise with their monotonous chiff-chaff call.
One of our aims is to support and encourage wildlife in the park, and it is lovely to know that our efforts are bearing fruit.
