The wild garlic plants came from a Friend's garden - it is of course illegal to dig up any wild plants. The Friends are always careful to source any plants sustainably

On Saturday we repaired the willow tunnel, did a bit of clearing in the Community Garden, and planted some wild garlic in a bare spot by the Bowerham Road entrance.
Unfortunately, there has been some vandalism in that area - a wall knocked down, a fire, and rubbish regularly dumped - but we hope to improve it over the next few months One of our members will be eighty years old in April, so we planted 8o Snowdrops in Middlewood to celebrate!
Friends of Greaves Park will be working in the park on Saturday 16 March from 2-4. We will be doing the usual weeding and clearing and possibly also repairing the willow tunnel. We will meet at the shed near Bowerham Road at 2pm.
On Saturday we repaired the wigwam on Greaves Park Lawn, with lots of fresh willow kindly given by Fairfield.
It was quite straggly at the top and there was a bit of damage and dead wood to remove (see the before photo). Thanks to all the volunteers, and to Olivia from the council for transporting it and helping us with the repairs. It's looking a lot nicer now. We are working in the park on Saturday 17th February from 2 - 4. We will meet at the shed near the Bowerham Road entrance to the pub and will be doing some clearing of brambles and other weeds in the croquet lawn area.
Do join us - tools are provided. Sadly the weather forecast is rather dire so we have decided to cancel the Work Party for this Saturday.
Next Saturday 20 January the Friends of Greaves Park will be working from 10.30 to around 12.30. We will be clearing brambles etc. in the Croquet Lawn area.
All welcome! We will meet at the shed at 10.30. Greaves Park used to have 2 Holm Oaks, also called Evergreen Oaks, but one fell over a few years ago and now a very large branch has split from the other one, which is on the A6 side of the play park. We don't know if the rest of the tree can be saved, which is very sad.
